Dr. Christiansen is Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at Boston University. He is active in both basic and clinical research and has held leadership positions in several US multi-center clinical trials. He has published over 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Areas of emphasis include strabismus, pediatric cataract, ROP, and extraocular muscle physiology. In addition, Dr. Christiansen has established two new eye clinics in southern Africa and has provided surgical training and care there since 1993. More recently, he helped develop and launch iPET, a new program in the Gambia to train non-MDs in pediatric eye care.
