Rashmi Deshmukh completed her training in ophthalmology at JIPMER, Pondicherry, and received the university Gold Medal for being the best resident. She then pursued the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) formal fellowship in Refractive Surgery, Cornea and Cataract Surgery at Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore. She was on the faculty of Centre for Sight, New Delhi for 1.5 years before she was selected for a clinical and research fellowship program in cornea and ocular surface at the University of Nottingham under the mentorship of Professor Harminder Dua. She followed it up with a senior clinical fellowship in cornea and cataract at the Cambridge University Hospitals. Dr Deshmukh, being keenly interested in academics and translational research, has published over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts and several book chapters. Apart from being an active reviewer for international journals, she is an Assistant Editor for Refractive Surgery and Cornea for the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology and is on the Editorial Board of BMC Ophthalmology. Honors and awards to her credit include IJO Gold Award, 2019 for “Current concepts in crosslinking”, IJO Honour Award for Peer Review, 2018, IJO Silver Award, 2017 for “Altered tear inflammatory profile in Indian keratoconus patients”, Best Paper Award in APACRS 2017, Travel Grant by ARVO 2017, K.C. Singhal Award for Best Paper in External Disease AIOS 2017. International Ophthalmic Hero by AIOS 2017, Best Paper Award in APACRS 2016, Best Cornea Paper in Karnataka Ophthalmic Society 2016. She is currently a consultant at LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India.
